Hippocamp

Another kind of mythological equine creature is the hippocamp or water horse or sea horse (not to be confused with real seahorses which are actually a kind of fish). These animals, with the front of a horse and the rear of a fish, were depicted in Ancient Greek and Roman mythology and in frescos, mosaics and statues, and later medieval heraldry. They became particularly popular as subjects for grand statues and fountains during the classical revival of the sixteenth to eighteenth century.

Drawing a long, continuous and graceful line for the front of the body is more difficult. At the top end it can follow the form of a horse’s neck and belly, then it needs to curve and twist gracefully while also reducing the girth of the tail at an even rate as it progresses to a point.
